1. General questions

1.1 Why the 'dim' name?

'dim' stands for Distributed Item Manager.

1.2 Why yet another version control system ?

Because of some new features in dim that are not available by design in other systems. Notably multi-items composition. Also because existing systems are too complex and bloated.

1.3 What is a library in dim?

A library is a reference space used to store the differents dim objects: item versions on disk, item archives, user certificates. All the versions in library are dated, checksummed and crypto-signed.

1.4 What is a job in dim ?

A job is a working space, in the user filesystem space, where a library can be replicated, versions extracted, modified, saved and finally exported from.

1.5 How does version naming work in dim?

Dim provides a version name server wich ensures the uniqueness of the version name.
